Trees along the east of our property, which is on a corner. So this "hedge" of trees, protects the house from the street, on that side. Originally, they were a hedge, around the border of a mansion. This mansion and its surrounding lawn, took up the entire block, on which 12 houses have been built. Next to our lot, the old hedge had not been removed, and we didn't either, when we bought the lot and built a house here.
All these years later, the original mansion hedge is fully grown pine trees, and maple trees have seeded themselves in among them.
I was always intrigued by one crook in one tree {lower left corner of mosaic}, and wondered why it had grown crooked like that. This morning, I {finally} noticed that it's not the only one. There are others, and some are obviously very old. These trees have been adapting, to go to more sunlight, for many many years.
Natural adaptation... At home... Up close and personal... :-)
